Mercy Health Center is a clinic for uninsured individuals of Athens that provides healthcare free of cost to those who need it. I volunteer weekly as a Medical Assistant to triage patients before the provider assess them. I also volunteer at their COVID-19 test days by gathering nasal swabs from patients.
This volunteer position increased my ability to:
- Obtain vital signs and properly enter them into an EMR system
- Perform basic medical tests and procedures such as blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, urinalysis, and flu shots
- Obtain COVID-19 nasal swab samples for testing
- Collaborate with volunteers, staff, and providers to assess patients medical needs
